dangling feet no ground (2023) short film | 2.5 minutes
Dangling feet no ground (2023) marries a monologue voiced by a contestant on a fictional queer reality TV dating show with documentary footage of a rural artist residency. The monologue and footage were developed in residence. This cross form of fiction and non-fiction highlights the tensions at play in the overlaps between the twinned sites. Both operate as bubbles in their own right—one centring performative production and the other experimental production.
Hope is in the stillness and repetition of the environment. It's a time of anticipation, waiting for something to take over and finding pleasure in the moment's suspension. In this state of 'pre-', hope becomes possible. The featured monologue is the first in a series of seven, developed initially as a sound installation, under the pink of my tongue, I found love (UTP) (2022-23). The series represents the internal monologues of the dating show protagonist Aida, exposing her perspective and communion with viewers.
