Under the pink of my tongue, I found love (2022) solo exhibition | Kingsgate Workshops, London
If They saw U,
They would conceive me,
a thing attached, enlivened
buried, in your skin
without defence or pretence,
(((((nestled)))))
Under the pink of my tongue, I found love follows Aida, a reality TV contestant on a black queer dating show. Initially, the project was presented as a 6-channel ambisonic installation for a solo exhibition at Kingsgate Workshops, London, September - October 2022. The exhibition and sound installation exposes a raw nerve extracted from the scripted short film currently in development, presenting a series of Aida's internal monologues as voiced by the artist. Aida begins her day secretly monologuing her innermost thoughts and feelings to win over broadcast viewers. However, her relationship with the audience warps as her place in the programme becomes jeopardised by a low ranking. Aida must compete for the affections of both her fellow contestants and the audience, caught in a game of performativity that mercilessly elides the distinctions between her desires and her identity.
Originally presented as a 6-channel ambisonic installation, the binaural mix is available to listen to below.
